It is best to put your
jewelry on AFTER applying cosmetics, skin care products,
perfume, or
hairspray.
Gemstone jewelry and sterling silver can be damaged by household
cleaners, chlorine, salt water, and other caustic substances.
Remove your jewelry before housecleaning or swimming to prevent
damaging it.
Polish your jewelry with a soft cloth to remove perspiration and
body oil before putting it away.
Storing Your
Jewelry
Store each of your jewelry items separately in order to prevent
scratching. Pouches made of soft fabrics are ideal for storing
jewelry with the exception of sterling silver.
Exposure to air and light causes sterling silver to tarnish
quickly. Storing these items in a plastic zipper bag slows the
tarnishing process tremendously. If the sterling silver
components in your handmade jewelry become tarnished, the
tarnish can be removed with a specially designed silver
polishing cloth.
DO NOT immerse gemstone jewelry in liquid silver cleaning
solutions.
**It is highly recommend that you store necklaces and
lanyards lying flat to
avoid kinking or stretching of the
jewelry wire. Although highly durable when cared for properly,
jewelry wire WILL break if it becomes kinked**.
Cleaning Your
Jewelry
Clean your jewelry with a dampened soft cloth. If additional
cleaning is needed to remove visible surface soil, add a tiny
amount of mild soap such as dish detergent to the cloth or scrub
gently with a soft toothbrush.
DO NOT use chemical jewelry cleaners to clean your natural
gemstone jewelry. This type of cleaner is often too harsh and
can cause irreparable damage.
Ultrasonic cleaners may also damage some natural gemstone
components. Consult the manufacturer of your ultrasonic jewelry
cleaner before cleaning your jewelry in this manner.
